About Plymstock Reflexology

My name is Claire and I am a fully qualified and insured Clinical Reflexologist, and I have a beautiful private therapy room based next to my home in the Elburton area of Plymstock, which is on the outskirts of Plymouth and bordering the South Hams. I am also a member of the Association of Reflexologists.

I offer Reflexology, Reflexology Lymph Drainage, Facial Reflexology and Bowen Therapy.

An hours combined Facial and foot reflexology treatment is one of my most popular treatments.

My aim is to help you achieve a healthier, happier and more balanced lifestyle through the use of Reflexology. The treatment is tailored completely to you. It’s your space and my aim is help you achieve what you want from it.

I live with my husband and my two youngest children, we moved to Plymouth from Leicester seven years ago to enjoy a life by the sea. I also have 3 grown up children and 3 beautiful grand-daughters.

I have always had a passion for natural health and believe that a holistic approach to wellbeing is the way forward. I studied Reflexology for a year with the Devon school of Reflexology and my Level 3 Diploma consisted of completing 100 hours of practical hands and feet experience and I also have a Anatomy and Physiology qualification. I am a member of the professional body - The Association of Reflexologists.

In 2023 I qualified in Bowen therapy after studying at Bowen College UK for a year.

Facial Reflexology

Bergman Method Facial Reflexology

This method of Facial Reflexology was developed by award winning Reflexologist Ziggie Bergman. It is a non-invasive, natural therapy based on the same principles as Foot Reflexology. It provides the same therapeutic benefits as regular Reflexology but with some wonderful added benefits. Facial Reflexology is a wonderful natural way to achieve a beautiful radiant glow and healthier, younger looking skin.

It is a soothing treatment where gentle pressure is applied to the reflex points on the face to promote stress relief, a greater sense of well-being and a feeling of calm.

What to Expect During a Treatment

The treatment will begin with some natural facial oil being applied which will leave your skin feeling nourished and replenished. Then gentle pressure is applied to all of the reflex points on your face. This will be followed by gentle facial massage and the use of crystals on the face.

Bergman Method Facial Reflexology is a much gentler, slower treatment in comparison to Foot Reflexology, however, the therapeutic and visible benefits of this treatment speak for themselves.

Benefits of Facial Reflexology

  • Boosts the immune system
  • Helps to relieve congested sinuses
  • Relaxes muscle tissue in the facial area, which can have a beneficial effect on relieving headaches, migraines, TMJ disorders, bruxism and Bells Palsy
  • Encourages lymphatic drainage
  • Stimulates the body to eliminate toxins
  • Improves skin tone and texture through increasing blood flow and circulation to the facial area
  • Stimulates the production of Collagen and Elastin
  • Improves the appearance of the skin

Bowen Therapy

About Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy is a holistic technique that works on the soft connective tissue (fascia) of the body.

A Bowen treatment consists of a sequence of small moves , each at a specific site on the body. The treatment can be performed over light clothing. It can be used to treat Musculoskeletal or related problems. including acute sports injuries or and chronic or organic conditions.

Frequently Asked Questions - Reflexology

What happens during a session?

When you arrive for a Reflexology session you will complete a medical questionnaire.

You will then be asked to remove your socks/tights and shoes and will sit on a reclining chair. Then the reflexologist will then examine your feet and they will be cleansed with warm cloths, then foot balm will be applied and the reflexologist will then massage the feet to relax them and press on reflex points that correspond with parts of the body. This will not tickle as a firm pressure is used, you may feel tenderness in certain areas and these areas will be worked on to release congestion in the body.

Who can have Reflexology?

The simple answer is anyone; men, women, babies and children can benefit.

However, anyone with ongoing deep vein thrombosis or any form of blood clot could not be treated until their medication to control the clotting was properly balanced.

I am well so how can it help me?

Reflexology is believed to be a preventative form of therapy, helping you to retain your feeling of wellness.

It is believed that approximately 75% of all illnesses are linked to stress so removal of some of the stresses in life can be beneficial to good health.

What sort of problems might it help with?

Some of the most common issues that clients come in for include but aren't limited to:

Stress and Anxiety

Menopausal symptoms

Back, neck & shoulder pain

Fertility

Headache / Migraine

Joint pain

Muscle tightness / tension / pain

Posture

Repetitive strain injury (RSI)

Sports Injury

Many people find that how they cope with their illness or pain changes for the better with reflexology.

It is particularly helpful with the ‘sort of feeling under the weather’ issues with lots of minor symptoms you may not wish to take to the Doctor, such as not sleeping, poor concentration, lack of energy. It is believed to re-balance the systems of the body so they work in harmony with each other. It works on an individual basis, with everyone reacting differently to the treatment.

Does it hurt?

Treatments may be firm or light depending on your preference. Areas of imbalance may feel tender to the feet, and Reflexology imbalances may be present for several reasons and after a release of the energy block the ‘imbalance’ may be helped by the healing energy being able to flow freely. This release may be uncomfortable during the application of pressure however this is under the clients control and the treatment can be lightened if it is too uncomfortable. Many of my clients say it’s a ‘feeling of good ache, like its doing some good’

I have sub-fertility issues and have heard that Reflexology might just help – is this the case?

While there is no scientific evidence to support this, there is a growing band of women who believe they now have children due to having had Reflexology. Often these women have tried for years to become pregnant and may have even tried other types of fertility treatment without success. Then they try Reflexology, and after a course of treatment the body begins to work harmoniously. Stress is heavily involved in fertility problems so it might be the reduction in stress brought about by the reflexology that allows for a pregnancy to result but this is as yet unproven.

Again you will never know if it works for you unless you book an appointment and try reflexology for yourself!

Can reflexology help chronic illnesses?

Reflexology does not claim to cure but it can be used as a support mechanism for many illnesses both acute and chronic. Again the only way you will know how it will affect you in your particular situation will be to try it.

Reflexology can be surprising with its effects!

Reflexology should not be used as an alternative to seeing your Doctor or taking medical advice. It is a complementary therapy and can be used alongside other medical treatments.
